Dont “tie in” the lead. before you start the thread wrap the lead on in smooth touching turns. Then start your thread and secure the lead onto the shank with crossing turns.

It is just as malleable as the stuff he used in the video. I think it should be fine. Also solder now a days does not contain any lead. So it would be a more environmentally friendly solution
